No my kids are much more mature than Great Bight. GBM was a puppet I made to harass GB on the RMB. He would be banning nations and I would start to scold him, "You're on computer time-out!" or "Go change that eyepatch, it's starting to ooze." :ill: I had so much fun with it, I kept it.

I heard Ivan asked the mods to give up the identity of one of my puppets, Mrs. Moldavi. I had big plans for her, but alas, my cover was blown.

*sigh* These days the tyrants just aren't as colorful.

I'd figured that "GBM" was a puppet, but I've always found it confusing that your main identity on the forum would be that of a puppet nation. I instinctively wonder who you *really* are, even though you've "really" been GBM for the past 3-4 years and are therefore more rightly called GBM than whatever you went by before. :P

Back to the topic at hand.

L&C has banned these 11 patriots:

    - Aleisyr
    - Bravill
    - Nebtteggiws
    - Darjjan
    - North Pacific Delegacy
    - Stellae Polaris
    - Sacred Winds
    - Ethaea
    - Elende on the Castles
    - Senior Deus
    - Felt Grace

He has also banned Ianvs, who is not WA. Reasons unknown.

Edit: This list is not necessarily exhaustive. Aleisyr is the first nation whose banning I have been aware of; others may have come before. A test shall be run to find nations who have left TNP.

Ohhh, someone is a bit of a crabby this morning.

    *Namyeknom salutes his fallen comrades.

On the plus note, some of the first generation oppressed and banned nations are now off the list!

    Hooray for limited banlists!

On the negative note, those nations are now

    - in other regions
    - out of the UN
    - inactive for over a week.

    I'm a bit worried.

Sounds like an army of puppets...but that can't be, all those whom L&C eject are natives...ALL OF THEM!! >_<

Do not even think to question that wisdom, because you are wrong, no matter what.

No Blue Wolf, not all of the nations Lewis and Clark are natives. That's a statement just as absurd as a statement that all of the nations Lewis and Clark ejects are army puppets.

After all, if they were all army puppets why would so many of them still be in the UN? He obviously chose the more inactive, preferably no longer UN nations to unban.

Anyways, the full new ban list:

Having tired of being called in to deal with this kind of thing, they introduced the influence system and washed their hands of it. Actually I think it has turned out quite well (not the bannings, the influence system). I tend to agree with HC that it is better to have a game system that regulates this kind of thing, rather than some kind of in-game god figure stepping in all the time.

Sadly, the mods imposed a banlist limit of 200 in the time of Franco's Spain due to the moaning of the ADN.

  13. I think a maximum ban list total is a good idea. In fact, I think that the Mod should put a 48 hour maximum on any bannings. Why? It would force unpopular dictators like L&C to really work to stay in power (not that he isn't working his arse off right now. ). And it would make the game move a hell of a lot faster.

I can't wait until they add an 'anti-endorsement' feature. ;)

This wasn't exactly the paradigm shift that everyone claimed. Some of us knew this particular development was coming (those of us who actually followed the RL UN, that is ;D ). But it would have been no fun to let RL information to be dumped into game play.

The RL UN has a maximum banlist and an Influence system? I fail to follow.

And a minimum duration for a ban (such as six days) might have a better effect. WA switching takes two days, roughly, if you don't have an application ready and keep it refreshed every three days. This way, a nation that switches will take up three banlist slots.

Seems to be quite a bit more than 12 endorsements. While most of the nations banned yesterday did have an endorsement count of around 10, The United Socialist States of Idealist Scholars did have an endorsement count of 38 yesterday and The Federation of ET Edwards did have 26. But both were ejected after they unendorsed L&C. Maybe Nations should should only unendorse him when they are around 50 endorsements as ~30 doesn't seem to be enough.

Both were ejected but neither of them were banned. I do not think that the maths behind that are correct, I've seen nations with many more endorsements banned. Also, if they're new to the region then they will have less influence regardless of endorsements. The mathematics fail to bring that into consideration.

For example, if someone has been sitting in TNP for 4 years with 12 endorsements then it will cost far far far more influence than banjecting someone with 12 endorsements after a day or two. Influence builds up every update and so the most important factor is the time spent in the region (hence why Lewis and Clark has more endorsements than anyone else in the region but has far less influence than many)

Everything the mods have said about the influence system indicates that banning is a single variable transaction: You lose influence based on the influence that the target has.

In that case, the immediate number of endorsements doesn't matter at all - if a newbie endotarted his way to 200 today, he would be no less bannable than the newbie who still has only 0 endorsements. A week later, it's a different story.

    ---

If my hypothesis about the linearity is true, then you get about 5% of the influence L&C is getting every day with about 14 endorsements (14 / 280 = 5%). In that case, 20 people having kept 14 endorsements each for one day can be banned by L&C's daily influence allowance. Or 10 people with 28 endorsements. Or 10 people with 14 endorsements for 2 days, but keep in mind that in two days, L&C also gets his daily allowance twice.

Unfortunately, there's not much one can calculate even given these wild assumptions. We require one single additional variable: What does it cost to ban someone who has no influence because he's only moved hours ago? Is it free?

If it is, we're screwed because L&C can ban the newcomers and switchers every morning for eternity, unless he forgets to log in for a day or two, or we amass a huge army that does not fit into the banlist all at once (and in both cases, influence becomes moot because we could beat his endocount outright.)

I'd rather like to think there is some small price attached to banjecting a 0 influence nation. Not sure what it is. But it is this crucial variable that will determine the long-term trend:

We can see that L&C is banning a certain number of new nations every day, but leaving older nations alone (the "last ones get eaten" in the influence ranking). You could analogize this to an ant-hill that is being eroded while ants continue building on it, with the outer layers getting banjected and the inner layers solidifying.

The question is where the ant-hill will stabilize. Will there be an influence "gap" between GBM's "old" supporters (who will eventually become almost impervious to banning) and the "new" supporters who will be immediately banned? Then we have a stand-still.

Or will the erosion actually be sufficient to gradually sweep away more of the stronger members? This trend I find unlikely because the influence count has gradually grown in the last weeks which runs counter to the prediction.

Or will enough of the "new" supporters remain to "solidify" that the ant-hill wins eventually?

You can see that some weird ideas are going through my head. :P

For what it's worth, from my "experience" of banning people from a feeder, every nation has some influence however small.

I think you are on the right track with your ideas here; if you haven't already I would suggest you read the thread on the NS forums about influence. Fris confirmed that some of the ideas on how influence works put forward there were correct, but he would not say which ones.

Check this out: tirquoise was banned.

This time L&C banned a nation - a newcomer to the region - who applied to the House of Lords! That can't be good for the Crimson Order. It looks like the trigger-happy delegate shot himself in the foot. What does he want to do, ban everyone into activity? :npa4:

This is what comes from working off of scripts or lists of names and playing a numbers game without actually bothering to TALK to people. :duh:

  31. Yup, as they say, you can't unscrew a lightbulb. ;D

*Romanoffia figuring out right now how to pipe influence levels*

Actually, I have figured it out. Now I just have to write a script that reads the *all* of the feeds, reads the influence levels and then calculates ejectability.

Even if the most 'influential' nation in TNP became Delegate, the castration involved in ejecting a nation like GBM (if at all possible, which I severely doubt is possible) would reduce such a delegate to a squabbling toady of a newt.

By definition, a player can ban people of up to twice their own influence.

So to be utterly unbannable, you not only have to be the most influential in the region (which GBM probably is), but also more than twice as influential as the next guy (which she might not be).

I think you will find, dear Wolf, that the really influential nations all support us. But it was a good plan, otherwise. ;)

  36. Will never happen, BW. And I mean never.

Even if such a nation could be found, L&C is too much of an egomaniac to give up power and Gates would have to deal with another inept slave-delegate.

If nothing else, all we have to do is to sit around twiddling our thumbs and widdling in L&C's soup and he's done.

    Long live the TNP Resistance!

The environment is completely different now, and you can't draw on the past for examples that parallel it.
