Commend Pland Adanna
Category: Commendation | Target: Pland Adanna
Proposed by: Gem | Onsite Topic

The Security Council,

Reciting the Europeian legend of the great kraken, Pland Adanna, whose vast and mighty tentacles are said to wrap around the coasts, guarding the archipelago from all who might bring it harm;

Recalling the beginning of this fabled tale, when Pland was but a humble octopus, first swimming into Europeian waters in January 2021, diving headlong into the tides of regional governance and plunging deepest into the Ministry of World Assembly Affairs;

Recounting how Pland swiftly built up a well-deserved reputation as the octopus that swims into struggling ministries and rights the course, including as:
  • Minister of World Assembly Affairs, where, after first taking the helm from an inactive predecessor, their energetic leadership and innovative WAnalyst Awards program transformed the ministry’s stagnant waters into a thriving reef, where each Information for Voters (IFV) draft was snatched up in a fervent feeding frenzy; and where, in later terms, their IFV reforms once again turned the tide on delays and declining activity, putting wind back in the ministry’s sails;
  • Minister of Foreign Affairs, when, after a low tide of treaty turnover and ambassadorial decay, their tentacles unfurled into distant waters: overhauling ambassador lists, forging ties with Spiritus, signing the landmark Treaty of the Archipelagos with 10000 Islands, and launching the first wave of sanctions against the Brotherhood of Malice—a tenure made all the more striking as Pland, yet young in the multiverse, had swum the Europeian seas for less than two years: the greenest Minister of Foreign Affairs since 2017;
  • Minister of Communications, where, after taking over another rudderless, inactive ministry, they resurrected the Upvote Squad and engineered about a surge in authorship and output—in the span of but one term doubling the number of articles, radio shows, and hosts, and tripling the number of active authors;

Retelling how Pland, having grown into a mighty kraken, was confirmed as an original member of the Regional Security Council, their amassed influence frightening away the puny raider vessels that may otherwise have targeted the archipelago—thereafter, they went above and beyond, anchoring formative discussions on endorsement caps and internal protocols while sailing against the wind of early infrastructural deficits to outpace their colleagues in endorsement gathering;

Regaling of Pland’s stunning rise to the presidency: after stepping into the eye of a fierce diplomatic storm left churning from the term before, they acted swiftly—steadying the ship and working hand in tentacle with their Foreign Affairs team to chart a course to calmer waters;

Reporting how the rest of Pland’s presidential term—though far less turbulent—was no less impressive; ever the multitentacled marvel, they always had a hand in eight projects at once, including:
  • Voyaging into the uncharted depths of the Regional Message Board by solidifying what is now the Ministry of Interior, overseeing the launch of such staple strategies as This Week in Europeian News! dispatches;
  • Re-debuting the independent Ministry of Radio, which swiftly released a torrent of frequent and engaging broadcasts, surpassing even the high-water mark set under Pland’s prior Communications ministership;
  • Christening the effort to overhaul the region’s dispatch system and newcomer resources: in a short span, seventeen dispatches were distilled into eight, charted through four key stops, with streamlined navigation, all-new visuals and formatting, and fully up-to-date information, forming a more welcoming coastline that largely remains to this day;
  • Spearheading an era of unparalleled cultural excellence, from the spirited Seaside Pride collaboration with The South Pacific, to the roaring celebration of ten years braving the high seas with The North Pacific, to the grand Olympics 2023, which drew crews from the distant waters of The North Pacific, The West Pacific, The Pacific, and Balder to compete in over two dozen thrilling events;

Remembering the lavish state dinner Pland hosted for the Union of Democratic States, a banquet fit for Poseidon's own court, overflowing with pies in every fathomable flavor and culminating in the Treaty of Libertia and Pie, a landmark diplomatic accomplishment at the time;

Reflecting on how, even as the waves of time continue to lap against the shores of Europeia, the legend of Pland Adanna shall ever endure; rising from the inky depths of obscurity to the sunlit crests of leadership, their voyage carved a wake that will stir Europeian waters for years to come, and it is in reverence of their deeds, vast as the ocean and deep as its darkest trench, that the Security Council:

Hereby Commends [nation=long]Pland Adanna[/nation].

This is such a mid nominee who wouldn't be getting commended if he wasn't one of our "friends".

Agreed, except I wouldn’t use the quote marks there.

At a certain point, saying the quiet part out loud and continuing to do something that's objectively damaging to the WA as a whole might become a problem. I know we don't actually care about the health of the WA, but we sometimes pretend to.

I'm not understanding your position. In what way are commends damaging to the WA? What sort of problems could arise?

The overall quality of commended being so low now that the only qualification some nominees need to have is "Is in Europeia" is damaging to the overall health of the WA, which is clearly in decline.

Well just to be clear, while I don’t find this nominee to be excellent, I have a long history of supporting commendations for the less giant and looming figures of the game. I happen to think we ought to look to unsung and offbeat players at times and I’m happy to do that. But I’m generally a more permissive sort of person when it comes to this stuff.

That being said I do understand where MadJack is coming from. My personal moment where I realized the SC was not the same was when IA got a second commendation and the WA regulars didn’t even bother to justify it. I accepted that it was blatantly point scoring and politics at that point, and we might as well run up our numbers as well. While I believe every TNP nominee we have submitted was worthy and I personally put my best effort into the resolutions I wrote, I realize that some out there don’t share that opinion. There’s a few of our commendations from years back that I felt were premature or relied solely on this declining standard in the SC. So I’m much more inclined to throw my support behind an ally’s nominees even than I already was, sure.

But this ship sailed years ago at this point, and even if it didn’t, determining what the nebulous standard for the “proper” SC is a very subjective endeavor. I’m not sure how it would be fixed and I’m not sure if we have the objectively correct angle on fixing it. But I guess identifying a problem doesn’t mean it’s an easy one to tackle.
