Regarding Recreational Drugs
Category: Social Justice | Strength: Mild
Proposed by: Tinhampton, Co-authored by: Bisofeyri World Assembly Mission | Onsite Topic

Seeking to protect the rights of member states to set their own policy on recreational drugs, control their importation by individuals and corporations alike, and support those who may be addicted to them, the General Assembly hereby:
  • reserves to each member state whether to legalise, decriminalise, or forbid the possession, distribution, production, use, sale and purchase of drugs for recreational purposes within their jurisdiction,
  • forbids the import of drugs for recreational purposes into any member state in which those drugs cannot legally be possessed for recreational purposes, and
  • affirms that Article a shall not be read to prevent any member state from funding or delivering drug addiction rehabilitation services.
Note: Only votes from TNP WA nations, NPA personnel, and those on NPA deployments will be counted. If you do not meet these requirements, please add (non-WA) or something of that effect to your vote. If you are on an NPA deployment without being formally registered as an NPA member, name your deployed nation in your vote.

Voting Instructions:
  • Vote For if you want the Delegate to vote For the resolution.
  • Vote Against if you want the Delegate to vote Against the resolution.
  • Vote Abstain if you want the Delegate to abstain from voting on this resolution.

Information For Voters

Vote FOR “Regarding Recreational Drugs”.

Overview
This proposal is a simple piece of blocker legislation. It blocks the World Assembly from legislating on the legality of recreational drugs, first and foremost, leaving that decision up to member-states. Besides that, the proposal forbids the import of recreational drugs into member-states where those drugs are illegal.

Recommendation
We support this proposal for one simple reason: It gives member-states the right to make their own decisions regarding recreational drugs, according to the needs of their nations. It makes no sense for the World Assembly to legislate the domestic drug policy of ever-single member-state.

For these reasons, the Ministry of World Assembly Affairs recommends a vote FOR “Regarding Recreational Drugs”.

Against, since a blocker can also be repealed fairly easily (depending on your point of view on blockers). Not mentioning recreational drugs in the annals of the GA has the same effect.
